The Ground, Path and Fruition: Teachings on The Great Tertön & Introduction to Radically Happy

Phakchok Rinpoche | 27. September 2018 to 30. September

Vajrayana from a to z

During these four days of teaching, Kyabgön Phakchok Rinpoche will present the ground, path, and fruition of Vajrayāna practice, basing himself on his most recent book, the Great Tertön – The Life and Activities of Chokgyur Lingpa. Rinpoche will thus first lay out the ground of practice by recounting the life-story of Guru Rinpoche, founder of Tibetan Vajrayāna Buddhism. Knowing the life-story of the guru is essential to recalling his kindness, first step in fostering a relationship with him that can grow into devotion. Rinpoche will then give teachings on the path as laid out in the Dispeller of All Obstacles (Thukdrup Barché Künsel) and the life-story of its revealer, Chokgyur Dechen Zhikpo Linpga. This is a story filled with amazing accounts, which demonstrates the importance of devotion and pure perception. Finally, Phakchok Rinpoche will discuss the fruition, effortless and uninterrupted compassion, as illustrated by Chokgyur Lingpa's ongoing activities for the benefit of beings, through his unbroken lineage as well as his newly-created pure land, the Lotus-Covered Realm (Pema Khebpé Zhingkham).

Throughout this retreat, Kyabgön Phakchok Rinpoche will thus relate stories from the amazing lives of our lineage masters, give teachings on related supplication and aspiration prayers, and generally deepen our understanding of the ground, path, and fruition of Vajrayāna Buddhism through his own commentaries. In his unique, lively teaching style, Rinpoche thereby aims to familiarize students with two key elements of Vajrayāna practice: devotion and pure perception.

radically happy

During the retreat, Phakchok Rinpoche and Erric Solomon will introduce the path and techniques laid out in the book they have co-written, „Radically Happy: A User’s Guide to the Mind“. Accessible to Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike, the book and associated training program articulate a path for cultivating contentment and interconnection with others. Rinpoche and Erric will present on a sense of well-being that you can access anytime and especially when life is challenging. Using mindfulness techniques and accessible meditations, personal stories and scientific studies, you’ll get to know your own mind and experience and how a slight shift in your perspective can create a radical shift in your life.

The Radically Happy material has been crafted so that it may be accessible to all. With this in mind, practitioners at this retreat can learn some of the training in order to share it with others who could apply it and benefit. The book will be released on October 15, 2018, and is currently available for pre-order on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Indiebound, and wherever books are sold.

This retreat will focus on the Vajrayana Ground, Path and Fruition, and the amount of time dedicated to presentation of the Radically Happy material will depend on the experience and interest level of the retreatants.
